Celebrations: Graduation Photos 2008

the Woodstock class of 2008

May 30, 2008

We used to have the graduation ceremony after lunch, followed by picture-taking, then the graduation banquet - the last official school ceremony. Then the graduates found their own, unofficial ways to celebrate.

That schedule has changed. Observing with a charitable eye, I suppose it's a necessary side effect of the fact that many parents are not there to take charge of their children as soon as they're graduated. However, I also suspect that the school finds it convenient to wash their hands of the kids as soon as possible, so as not to be responsible for what goes on once they have their diplomas in hand and are finally free of boarding school rules.

Whatever the reasons, graduation now takes place in the morning, and the official photo shoot is before rather than after the ceremony. This means that the kids still in boarding have breakfast at 6 am, and the girls who need help with their saris have to be at school at 7 am so as to be dressed in time for photos at 8.

Official photos are taken of various subgroups, as well as the entire class.

^ 2nd-generation Woodstockers with their parents: Ross and me; Nishant and Tulika (with Anshuman Prakash '91); Sidhant, son of my late classmate Sundeep (also the nephew of Tulika); Ananya and her father; Elisa and Karen; Anja, daughter of Susan (who had visited a few weeks earlier)

^ classmates since elementary school: Rebekah and Shema

^ I just loved Niharika's sari!

^ Ross and Chagan (aka Kiki)

^ There's time to relax and gather one's thoughts: Tushar, Sidhant, and Sharon

^ ...and to take plenty of unofficial photos.

next: graduation
