Hello, I just wanted to add a piece of information to the “Finocchio” entry. Apparently, the use of this word to identify a gay man comes from the times when homosexuals where burned in the main square, as a punishment for their “crimes”. To mitigate the ugly smell of burned flesh, fennel seeds were thrown on the bonfire.
