Thanks to Ryanair's low-cost flights, it's become routine for me to pop up to England to visit my dad and his wife - they live in Milton Keynes, fairly near Luton, one of Ryanair's "London" airports, while Bergamo, Ryanair's Milan hub, is not too far from Lecco.
I had bought tickets months ago (the earlier you buy, the cheaper they are) for myself and Ross to visit just after the new year. Ross had spent an intense post-Christmas holiday out of town with a bunch of friends, and was flatteringly glad to head off for some "Mom time".
The flight to Luton was late, as seems to happen often with that flight (it's the last to leave Bergamo every night). Ruth picked us up and that late at night there was no traffic, but nonetheless we didn't get to their home til after 1 am - which is 2 am Italy time.
We got a slow start the next day. The only thing on the agenda was getting our pictures taken.
