On Sunday, Enrico and I headed back for Colorado, stopping along the way at Capulin Volcano, which proved to be well worth the 60-mile detour.

You can drive to the rim of the crater and then walk up and around or down into the crater. We started with the longer rim walk, enjoying spectacular views all the way around. Turned out we didn't have time to also do the crater - a storm blew up just as we were getting back to the car.

For reasons (to us) mysterious, ladybugs had gathered by the thousands.

More ladybugs...

...and still more.

We had already seen pronghorn antelope, singly and in small herds, along the side of the highway.

On this small, deserted back road, they let us get fairly close.

Enrico's deeper voice seemed to scare them more than mine - they moved away when he spoke.

This strange little tumulus is along the highway nearer to Denver. Haven't figured out what it is.
